YIN YOGA
Yin is a deeply nourishing, mindful practice that works to release stagnant energy, or QI, in the body and create space and mobility in the joints.
Poses are held for between 2 to 6 minutes and as you allow the pose to do its work you will sink deliciously into gravity, tightness and tension will give way to a sense of lightness and calm.
Yin works with our Meridians, channels of energy that run throughout the body and corelate with different organs, emotions and elements. Yin will help you tune into areas that feel blocked or sticky and harmony will be restored to your mind, body, spirit and soul.
Sometimes we will enhance the practice with the use of essential oils, or crystal sound bowls, we always end practice with Savasana so do bring a blanket. Mats, cushions and blocks are provided, Spirit + Soul own brand eye pillows are on sale at the studio, feel free to bring a bolster if you have one.
PILATES
Developed in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, this effective exercise system was quickly adopted by dancers and athletes alike. Made popular on the back of the eighties fitness boom, Pilates has evolved and stood the test of time that faddy crazes could not.
Originally designed on and around equipment, the most popular and accessible classes are taught on the mat.
Either on the mat or equipment based and whichever level you are at, Pilates focuses on ten principles;
Control
Centre
Concentration
Precision
Flowing movements
Breathe
Alignment
Lengthening
Stamina
Body awareness
Emma works carefully and thoroughly to ensure these principles are implemented, moving up through levels of difficulty as you become stronger.
The benefits are many. You will quickly notice improved posture which in turn aids musculoskeletal function and promotes wellbeing. Emma’s classes always consist of a thorough warm up, plenty of stretch work and full classic Pilates repertoire. Thanks to her background in dance an element of choreography is included, bringing variety and enjoyment to your lesson.
Regular classes give tone and length rather than bulky muscles as well as giving core strength and stability.
Pilates sits comfortably alongside work in the gym, dance or yoga classes or any sporting activity.
“I took ballet and contemporary dance lessons for many years and when I came to live in Cambridge Emma managed to replace that important space in my heart with her amazing Pilates classes. I did them religiously once a week for about 11 years (which included having two pregnancies!)
She is able to deliver an excellent lesson for all levels, including advanced. The sessions are dynamic, fun and as challenging as you need them to be! Best way to keep you in shape, stretch and strengthen your core and balance. I dont have enough thumbs up to give her!”
